Tunç Gömeçli, the Sales Manager of Doğuş Otomotiv Scania, a global company providing sales and services in more than 100 countries, gave information to our magazine about Turkish natural stone sector and sectoral solutions offered by Scania. Gömeçli said: “Our country, which has rich natural wealth such as natural stone fields and geological structure, has 4 billion cubic meters of workable marble, 2,8 billion cubic meters of workable travertine and 1 billion cubic meters of workable granite reserves. According to these figures, Turkey holds about 33 % of the world natural stone reserves. Scania is the solution partner for all business partners in the construction and mining sector. ”
Can you evaluate the natural stone sector in Turkey?
In the surveys conducted in Turkey, more than 200 different colored and textured marble types were determined. The marbles produced in Turkey have been used in many important places, from the White House to the Vatican. Turkey has an important advantage in world trade thanks to the convenience of sea transportation. Turkey, which exported 1.9 billion dollars valued natural stone exports in 2016, aims to export 2.2 billion dollars valued natural stone in 2017. It is predicted that the industry will gain 6 billion dollars export income in 2023. Our reserves are ranked first in the world market when evaluated in terms of its marble variety. Nearly 300 000 people are employed in this sector.
– What is Scania’s position in natural stone sector?
I am talking about a very large industry. Only the number of quarries in this sector is over 1,500. We often meet with industry representatives. We are proposing solutions after listening to their problems, requests and suggestions. Thus, while reducing operating costs to a minimum, we maximize efficiency. In the marble sector, we take place with our P cabin and G cabin options. Especially in the last 5 years, we have expanded our product range. Thanks to our modular structure, we have engine options that run smoothly with 100 % SCR technology, reaching from 250 horsepower to 730 horsepower.
– What are your advantages in the sector?
We offer our business partners vehicles that are specific to the business they make. We aim our customers to benefit from their vehicles at maximum level. Scania was born in Sweden. Sweden is among the most difficult countries to work in due to its cold climate and its hard structure of granite rocks. Scania is designing vehicles that can operate 24 hours, 7 days under extreme working conditions, without any problems. In addition, our vehicles have a high second-hand value. It makes you save money both while buying and selling. We show our customers how to use the vehicles more efficiently by providing technical and practical trainings in their quarries. In this way, the drivers learn how to drive safer and with lower fuel consumption. Thanks to this service offered with SESS (Scania Integrated Drive System), we report this to our customers, who request instant data. Briefly, we are with our business partners 24/7 with our sales, after sales and all our support units.
-Could you tell us about your after-sales service?
Shipping operations in mining sector are made with commitment. Therefore, vehicles of our customers should be running continuously in order to increase their profitability. With this consciousness, we are doing special work for our customers in the marble sector with our authorized services in regions such as İzmir, Antalya, Kayseri, Bursa, where the industry is active. As Scania, we believe that our main obligation starts after we sell our vehicles. Our spare-part availability should be higher than 90 %. We provide on-site service to our customers. When they don’t have opportunity to bring their vehicles to our service, we prefer to give technical support to our customers in their own places. We provide specific services, which are based on customer demands for these vehicles. If they are working under easier conditions, we keep our customers’ operating expenses down to minimum, by doing maintenance of their vehicles over a longer period.
– Bodywork of vehicles are also of great importance in the mining sector . What are your studies in this field?
We have a special portal with all the technical details of our Scania vehicles, specific for bodywork builders. We have an expert bodywork builder in our company only for off road vehicles. In addition to applications such as mixers and dampers, bodies such as garbage and fire trucks for our urban trucks are also 100 % compatible with Scania vehicles.
