Located in the heart of the International Financial Center, one of Dubai’s busy business districts, Orijins Cafe stands out as an architectural experience that offers tranquility amid the hustle and bustle. Designed by interior design firm VSHD, this unique space attracts attention with its simple lines and rich textures.
VSHD’s core approach in this project was to reflect the inspiration drawn from nature in a contemporary interpretation. The interior, inspired by natural elements such as sand, seashells, stone, and wood, features soft curved walls, opaque earth tones, and a cave-like atmosphere. The special plaster applications and sloped surfaces on the walls give the space a calm yet deep character.
The coffee bar at the center of the space is one of the most striking elements of the project. Made of different types of marble blocks, this bar displays a sculptural unity. Seven separate marble blocks were first drawn by hand, then converted into 3D models and shaped using CNC technology. In this way, each form brings the spirit of natural stone together with modern production. The raw texture of the marble is balanced by the elegance of the metal furniture, creating a sophisticated atmosphere.
The harmony of contrasts is at the forefront of the interior design: large, irregular stone blocks are combined with fine metal details, and the minimal use of color is supported by a strong material language. The lighting design stands out as a complementary element to this composition. Delicate LED strips highlight the curved ceiling lines, while brushed aluminum wall sconces create a simple lighting language.
With this project, VSHD sought to create not just a café, but also an “inner sanctuary.” The design philosophy that celebrates the beauty of imperfection is evident in every detail of the space. Orijins demonstrates that simplicity can also be an aesthetic language, inviting users to slow down, pause, and notice the details around them.
