The “Prokonnesos Marble Sculpture Symposium” was held in Marmara Island, which is Turkey’s the second biggest Island and the home of the oldest marble quarries in the world.
In the symposium which was held in partnership of Adalar Municipality and İstanbul Mineral Exporters Association, 8 sculptures worked intensively for 20 days in order to present their precious art pieces to the Island.
The Art Meets Daily Life
Participant sculptures of the symposium, which is prominent for the culture of the city, sculpted their sculptures in the open air atelier. In the meanwhile, the art lovers in the city were able to follow the formation process of art pieces. The city has gained 8 new sculptures at the end of the organization, which integrated daily life with art.
Importance of Art
Mayor of Marmara Adalar, Süleyman Aksoy said: “We will continue giving support to art and the artists. Such organizations enrich the spirit of our district. Art is a factor that stiffens our humanistic emotions. Thus, this is a very meaningful gathering for urban culture. I would like to thank to the esteemed sculptures for their devoted affords and to the people of my district for their continuous support. This symposium in which we host national and international artists will continue in the future as is has been in the last 17 years”
