Turkey’s natural stone exports reach 1,784,492,698 dollars in 2023

The Turkish natural stone sector realized exports worth $ 1,784,492,698 between January and November 2023. The latest export reports show that Turkey’s natural stone sector continues to grow by taking advantage of the increase in global demand and focusing on sustainability principles, minimizing environmental impacts.

Exports of processed marble: $ 823,547,992

Exports of processed travertine: $ 252,690,702

Block exports $ 615,170,212

According to the export figures, the sector, led by processed marble, achieved a significant success with processed marble exports of $ 823,547,992. Processed travertine exports also reached $ 252,690,702, showing the diversity of the sector. However, the most remarkable development was in block exports; $ 615,170,212 worth of block exports prove that the sector has a rapidly rising graph.

This accelerated growth in the sector draws attention especially with the leap in value-added product exports. The development of stone processing technologies allows the emergence of many new products in the market, which contributes to the positive increase in the market share and exports of the Turkish natural stone sector.

Latest situation in the processed marble market

When we take a look at the processed marble export reports for the January-November 2022-2023 period, we see that there was a % 17.23 decrease in quantity and a 9.04% decrease in value. This decline in the processed marble market shows that the challenges faced by the sector should not be ignored. Factors such as energy costs, raw material supply and international economic fluctuations may lead sector representatives to formulate a careful strategy and seek solutions for sustainable growth. The sector earned $ 823,547,992 from processed marble exports in the January-November period of 2023. The top 10 export destinations were the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Australia, Morocco, the Russian Federation and France.

Developments in the block market

In the block market, we are faced with a positive picture here as well. In the January-November period, Turkey earned $ 615,170,212 from processed marble exports. In the January-November 2022-2023 period, Turkey’s block marble exports increased by 5.14% in value. This increase shows that the competitiveness of the sector has increased on the production side. Block marble is the raw material of processed marble and costs less to produce. Therefore, the increase in block marble exports highlights the sector’s potential to increase its exports by utilizing its cost advantage.

In the 11-month period of 2023, the sector exported $ 252 million 690 thousand 702.The top 10 countries importing the most processed travertine from Turkey are the USA, France, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Romania, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Israel and Libya. The high demand for Turkish processed travertine, especially from countries such as the USA, France and Australia, increases the sector’s competitive advantage at the international level. Maintaining and developing trade with these countries can increase the growth potential of the sector.

 Situation in country groups

When we examine the country group export tables, it can be seen from the statistics that there was a decrease in Near-Middle East Asia, North America, European Union member countries, Europe, West Africa, Other Europe and Central/East/South Africa, while there was an increase in Other European countries, Other Asia, Central-South America and North Africa.

Exports to North American countries amounted to $ 363,584,521. The decrease in value was  % -17.69

Exports to Near and Middle East Asian countries amounted to $ 387,054,706. The decrease in value was % -4.83

Exports to European Union member countries amounted to $ 208,970,665. The decrease in value was % -24.28

Exports to other European countries amounted to $ 85,016,103. The increase in value was % 0.64

Exports to North African countries amounted to $ 79,602,302. The increase in value was % 4.19

Exports to Central and South American countries amounted to $ 30,144,373. The increase in value was % 6.00

Exports to West African countries amounted to $ 6,740,498 The decrease in value was % -18.75

Exports to Central, Eastern and Southern African countries amounted to $ 5,299,756. The decrease in value was % -8.39
