The decline in exports to China was reflected on the situation of block exports as well as the general export figures. There was loss of value on Turkey’s natural stone exports to Taiwan (23.94 percent), Jordan (50,07 percent), Syria (14,14 percent), Hong Kong (32,52 percent), Spain (44.99 percent) ), Greece (49.01%) and Indonesia (80.39%). In total, the value of block marble-travertine exports decreased by 13.40 percent. In the first month of 2019, the Turkish natural stone industry exported 568,663,610 kilograms of block-marble-travertine, resulting in 104,470,223 dollars of revenue. In the January-February period of last year, Turkish natural stone sector had exported a total of 677,457,912 kilograms of blocks and generated $ 120,633,552.dollars of total export revenue.
Hard fall in Indonesia
Indonesia, which has a great potential in terms of economy, is estimated to be the 7th largest economy in the world in 2030. Indonesia, which has made great strides in the construction sector, which is the main application area of natural stones, also revived the natural stone industry. The 91.27 percent increase in exports in the January-February period of last year was an evidence to this. Noticing the attractiveness of Indonesia, the sector had participated in the marble fair in Jakarta, Indonesia in November 2018 with the hope of expanding its market share and introduce its products. However, the recent sharp decline in the export statistics created a shock. The decline in exports to this country is 68.52 percent, while the revenue is only $ 634.379. However, this same figure was 4.798.519 Dollars in the first two months of last year.
19, 68 % increase in India
In the first two months of 2019, natural stone exports to India have increased by 19.68 percent. The total value of natural stone exported to India, which had been $ 7,444,887 in the first two months of 2018 was realized as 8,910,066 dollars in the same period of 2019. There is also an increase in quantity of natural stone exports to India. The amount of natural stone imported by India, which had been 38,387,008 kg in the first two months of 2018, was realized as 44.094.002 kg in the same period of 2019. The increase in quantity was recorded as 14.78 percent.
Exports to U.S.A. is stable
In spite of the increase and decrease over the years, the United States maintains the second place in the ranking of the natural stone exporting countries and is still the first in the export of the processed products. Turkey’s natural exports to USA, declined by 2, 25 in January-February 2019 period. Turkey’s natural stone income from sales of 100.120.952 kg natural stone was 43.567.705 dollars last year. When we look at the present figures, we see that the Turkish natural stone industry exports 97,945,814 kg of natural stone to the USA in return of 42,588,672 dollars. However, in 2004, a total of $ 306 million of sales revenue was gained in return of 542 thousand tons stone.
Processed marble export is increasing while the travertine export decreases
When we examine the product group statistics, it is seen that the amount of processed marble exports to America has reached an increase of 21.24 with 13.19% increase in value. The Turkish natural stone industry sold 62.3733.072 kilograms of processed marble to the United States, generating revenues of $ 29.111.311. In the same period of the previous year, 51.444.17 kilograms of processed marbles were sold and a gain of 25.718.850 dollars was achieved. While the increase in value of processed marble exports to the USA makes the sector happy, the same satisfying development was not seen in processed travertine. The total value of Turkey’s natural stone exports, which had been $ 16,124,898 in January-February, was realized as $ 11,753,554 with 27.11 percent decline in the same period of 2019. The amount of processed travertine sold to the United States was 31,780,492 kg.

The overall total of natural stone exports to Central and South American countries reduced by 46.07 percent in value and 34.07 percent in amount. The total value of Turkey’s natural stone exports to Central and South American countries in the January-February period of 2018 was US $ 4,292,338. The same figure was realized as US dollars 2.315.012 in the same period of 2019. Dominican Republic is the leading natural importer among Central and South American countries. In the first two months of 2019, the Turkish natural stone sector registered a 43.83 percent decrease in its exports to the Dominican Republic, generating $ 400.157 revenue. Last year, this figure was $ 1,537,518. The overall total of natural stone exports to Canada has reduced by 2.25 percent in value and 2.17 percent in amount. In the first two months of 2018, total value of Canada’s natural stone purchase from Turkey was $ 43,567,705. This was 42,588,672 dollars in the same period of 2019.
Good news from Saudi Arabia
The total value of Turkey’s natural stone exports to Saudi Arabia in the first two months of 2019 was realized as $ 21,483,430 with 52, 07 percent increase. This figure was $ 14,127,280 in the same period of last year. Saudi Arabia, after USA, is the biggest buyer of Turkish natural stone. Exports of processed marble to this country also increased compared to last year. The total value of processed natural stone exported to Saudi Arabia had been 25,718,850 dollars in the January-February period of 2018. This figure was increased by % 13.19 in the same period of 2019. The total revenue has been increased to $ 29,111,311. When we look at the overall sum of the Near and Middle East Asian countries, it is seen that the sector generated 53.718.278 dollars revenue with 1.99% increase.
Promising Countries
Although the general picture shows that the sector’s natural stone exports have been reducing, the situation is more favorable in other European countries, which include countries such as Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Switzerland. Total value of natural stone exports to other European countries, which had been 3,832,493 dollars in the first two months of 2018, was realized as $ 7,480,382 in the same period of 2019. Thus, an increase of 95.18 percent was achieved. Natural stone imports by North and West Africa and Other European countries increased remarkably. The total value of natural stone exported to North African countries which had been $ 4.926.149 in the January-February period of 2018 was realized as $ 8.516.129 in the same period of 2019. This situation shows that the sector has a 72.88 percent increase in value. Turkey’s natural stone exports to West African countries increased by 100.57 percent in value.
