We had a pleasant interview with Interior Architect Aysun Doğan, who draws attention with her unique style in the field of interior architecture and has signed successful projects. Doğan, who completed her architectural education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Haliç University, started her own journey by establishing No 41 Interior Architecture Company in 2018. Known for her Modern Classic style and blending functionality and aesthetics in a perfect balance, Doğan shared her success in her projects and her design philosophy with you, our esteemed readers.
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself for our readers who want to get to know you?
I am Interior Architect Aysun Doğan, founder of No 41 Interior Architecture. I founded my company in 2018. At the same time, if I talk about my school life, I graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Haliç University Interior Architecture.
How would you describe your design approach?
The sentence that best describes my design approach would be: Modern Classic. Because modern is timeless and classic is timeless. So I can say that they both actually lead to the same door.
What are the challenges you often face in your projects? What do you do to overcome these challenges?
The problems I often experience in my projects are frankly not so much lately. Sometimes there can be time-related disruptions, but that can be communicated to our customer and after mutual confirmation, there can be a delay of 1-2 weeks at most. Apart from that, we have been working with our suppliers for years, we do not have any problems with them.
How do you balance functionality and aesthetics in interior design?
I don’t think it matters if something is aesthetic if it is not functional; if aesthetics is aimed at functionality, we can get the right results here.
Do you prefer to use marble in your work? What are the factors that influence your preference for marble over other materials?
Marble is of course the first material I use in my work: countertops, flooring, dining tables, bathrooms and shower interiors, we love to use completely original marble. I don’t think any pretend material gives the original. That’s why I think marble has a very different aura. It is also a timeless material.
How do you evaluate the future trends of marble?
Porcelain was at the forefront for the last 3 years, now I see a return to marble. Anyway, no material that is original goes out of fashion.
Can you share some of the most important projects of your company and their features?
Tema 2 Villa project was centered on modern classics and marble. The panda marble we used on the kitchen island exploded the space. I can say that it created a memorable effect. And the cherry-colored bar chairs in front of it were a design that fully satisfied our client and amazed everyone who saw it. When you go inside, the villa looks imposing because the ceiling is very high. We were lucky in this respect.
A new structure was added to the Çekmeköy Villa Project. I can say that we revealed what was not on the bottom floor. We made the bottom floor look like a one-story American-style house. However, it was a 4-story villa. Our project lasted 1 year and it was one of the works I enjoyed the most.
We have many villa projects like this, all of them were enjoyable. They are all very valuable and special to me.
