What does natural stone mean to you?
Natural stone means architectural power, sincerity and truth for me. I love stone and try to use it as much as possible in all my projects that the project budget allows. Natural stone has a very important role and meaning in human life, not only in architecture and interior design, but also as jewelry. I can say that natural stone is the jewel of architecture. A material can bond with humans and live with its energy. Just like human fingerprints, natural stones surprise with a different tone in each piece. I do not think that the exact same piece of natural stone exists in the universe. In addition, a very smart material can change with climatic conditions.
Which marbles do you mainly prefer in your projects?
Verde Dorato is probably my favorite, especially these days. In general, I give priority to volcanic stones. Of course, Carrara. Stones is a special stone for me. Sometimes it forms the main theme in our projects. Its textures and forms really impress me.

What are your criteria for choosing natural stone? How do users’ expectations affect your choice?
In our projects, what we consider first before we choosing Stones for our projects is the space and purpose. Our most important criterion is the harmony of stone with our story. Sometimes we get excited when we see a stone enriching our project with its own story. There are thousands of types of stones in the world, and new stones continue to emerge. Before choosing our stone, we research the stones and even try to go and touch them. If we can tell the employer well our story and the reasons for our choice, we move forward with our alternatives with his support. Employers support this with pleasure, as natural stones inspire the stories.
Which spaces do you prefer to apply marble in your projects?
In our projects, we mostly apply marbles on floors and walls. Its high strength makes it preferable. However, it has recently started to take the leading role in our furniture and accessory designs.
What is your favorite other material to use with marble?
In fact, the most beautiful material that I associate marble with is soil, but we cannot use it in architecture. There are two materials that we love to use with marble. These are metal and wood. I call them the great trio. They definitely increase the quality perception and energy of the work.
What do you think are the most striking stones of recent times? What would you say about new trends?
I think there should not be a trend in our profession because each project’s identity, personality and employer is different. However, if I have to answer, one of the stones that I really like and want to be trendy is Metalic Green Rockfinished. Its texture and tones are capable of keeping up with many projects.
After the earthquake disaster in our country, we began to hear the warnings that ‘light materials should be used in buildings to reduce earthquake damage’. In order to prevent damage, what should be considered when using natural stone in buildings? In which parts of the buildings would it be healthier to prefer natural stones?
As a recent development in natural stones, they are trying to reduce the weight of the natural thickness of the stone, especially on the facades, by thinly cutting the upper surface of the stone. This work is being done today and the systems are working just fine. I do not find the weight of the stone in an earthquake a realistic discussion. Static projects calculate the load per m². In other words, the amount of load brought by the stone per m² is always found as an attachment to this calculation, considering the possibilities. In my opinion, the appropriateness of projects should be subject to external control, other than the municipality. Thus, architects can freely use any material they want. It may be a more logical to discuss the risk created by improperly mounted natural stone in projects.in an earthquake. I find it more appropriate to question the correct assembly forms of the stones and the quality of workmanship.
