On the second day of the fair, a gala dinner was held by MADSİAD at Bursa Hilton Hotel. MADSİAD Chairman of the Board, Erol Efendioğlu, who delivered a speech at the event said: “Unfortunately, the fair coincided with the Diwali Feast of the Indians. Along with this, the current operation in Syria, and the global defamations negatively affected the number of visitors. We are expecting to have a better organization next year. There are negative press coverage about marble and gold mining. Despite all the challenges in the acquisition of mining permits, we are way ahead of the Italian marble mining sector, which we used to admire in 90’s. We will continue our first-class efforts in marble quarrying. In this process, it is very important to have the support of our government in mining permits. Italians have been exporting marble blocks since Roman times. We have been accelerated in the export of marble for the last 30 years. The export value of $ 2 billion, which the Italians have been able to achieve for 100 years, has been achieved by Turkish marble sector in 30 years. We are not aware of these achievements. There is a urban myth that circulates among the people saying that the blocks are sold as raw material and purchased back as processed material. The press reports that the forested areas are moving away due to gold and marble mining. We are paying serious forest fees. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry receives the biggest contribution in sapling planting, from us miners. We need to break this misperception in the public opinion.”
