Natural stone exports increased to 20 billion dollars in the last 10 years
With the Mining Law enacted in 1985, an investment guarantee was given to the sector, thus paving the way for production. The Fair, which has reached 1,100 exhibitors from 47 exhibitors, and 77 thousand visitors from 4 thousand visitors in 25 years, contributes to closing the foreign trade deficit of the country. The countdown to March 30 has begun!
The countdown has begun for the 27th Marble Izmir Fair. Marble Izmir is excited to open at FuarIzmir from 30 March to 2 April. With the acceleration of the vaccination processes in Turkey, visitors from many parts of the world are expected to come to the Fair. All of the buyers registered in previous years within the scope of the Hosted Buyer program stated that  they will attend the Fair if the pandemic conditions allow it. The fair is getting ready to bring dynamism to the sector again by stepping up with events such as the World Stone Summit and the Different Design Competition.

Safe fair organization
FuarIzmir, which has the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) Covid-19 Safe Service Certificate dated March 2021, will host the natural stone industry this year with the area arrangement and applications in accordance with the pandemic conditions. While the fairs that are the apple of the eye of Izmir have contributed greatly to the economy, they also drew attention with their high-level health measures against the global epidemic, the coronavirus. Turkey achieved its 2021 target

The sector, which exported 5 million 468 thousand tons of natural stone in the January-November period of 2020, increased this figure to 7 million 200 thousand tons in 2021 The total export figure rose from one billion 573 million dollars to 1.9 billion dollars. The top 10 countries that most prefer Turkish natural stone are China, the United States, France, Israel, Iraq, India, Germany, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Libya. This year, especially the American and European countries lunged in the export of processed products. The Marble Izmir Fair also stood by the industry with all its strength. 553 companies from 12 countries participated in the 42nd Building Fair – Turkeybuild Istanbul that was organized by YEM Fair Organization Company, which is part of ITE Turkey at Tüyap Congress and Exhibition Center on 18-22 June 2019. Last year, the Yapı – Turkeybuild Istanbul had hosted over 1,000 exhibitors and 85,923 visitors from 17 countries.

Fair full of events

In order to support sector professionals and contribute to the sector, the fair also hosted rich content business programs, including over 30 events and over 90 national and international expert speakers for five days. At the fair, which was full of activities, the agenda of the construction and building sector was discussed on the topics of innovative construction technologies, worker robots, contemporary building materials, innovative ways of doing business and new urban transformation opportunities.

Within the scope of efforts to improve the marble exportation of the Mediterranean Region, Antalya Port officials came together with the companies that export the highest amount of marble. The participants of the meeting hosted by Antalya Port – Port Akdeniz General Manager Mr. Özgür Sert at Akra Barut Hotel were the representatives of İmsa Marble, İltaş Mining, Onur Marble, Antalya Marble, Sekamar, Dali Mining, Stone Library, Tema Marble, Dünya Stone, Varollar Transport, Olimar Mining and Antalya Port Unit Managers. At the meeting where the details of marble exports were discussed, the opinions of company managers were taken in order to develop the process.

An export port with 89% share

Providing general information about Global Ports Holding, Port Akdeniz General Manager Özgür Sert, said: “When we look at the export and import ratios of our port by container, we see that, 87% of trading realized were exports, while the rate of imports was 13% in 2017. In 2018, these figures were realized as 89% exports and 11% imports in 2018.

85% of the container exports made from the port are marble

Özgür Sert, giving some details about the (Teu) ratio of container export loads realized in Antalya Port in 2018 said: “85% of the exports realized in the port were marble (% 80 block and % 5 pallette). In 2018, % 74 of the total marble exports were shipped to China. The remaining part was shipped to the following countries in given ratios: 5% to India, 3% to USA, 3% to Canada, 1% to Panama, 1% to United Arab Emirates, 1% to Saudi Arabia, 1% to Brazil, 1% to Algeria, 1% to Indonesia and 9 % to other countries.

Özgür Sert said: “Block marbles exported to China are obtained from two main regions in Turkey. One of these regions consists of Burdur, Antalya and Isparta cities, where 523 licensed mining fields are located. In the second region, consisting of Afyonkarahisar, Muğla, Denizli, Konya and Karaman there are ​​462 licensed fields.

Turkish mineral sector, which turns the natural resources of our country into economic values and brought 4,7 billion dollars export revenue in 2018, gathered in “Sectoral Meeting” and “The Stars of Export” award ceremony held in Çeşme, İzmir. The 22 mineral exporters from Manisa and İzmir were presented awards for their successful contributions in Turkish economy. The event, organized by the Aegean Mineral Exporters Association (EMİB), took place on 23 February 2019 at Çeşme Boyalık Beach Hotel. Aegean mineral exporters discussed the problems of the sector and their solutions.

Kaya:”We have proved the power of unity”

Mevlüt Kaya, the President of the Board of Directors of EMİB, emphasized that all the achievements in the sector were the result of cooperation and unity, and stated that they were able to solve all sectoral problems with this approach. Kaya said: ”We have eliminated the problems about the final mining law together and proved the power of acting together. We are working to achieve what we need to achieve together with all of our stakeholders and for the benefit of our sector. Export level is the leverage in country’s’ economy. We are carrying out activities such as UR-GE, trade delegations and fair organizations in order to increase the production of value added products and mineral exports.”

Kaya, indicating that the mineral sector has a negative image in public opinion, said: ”We are trying to break this negative perception. Only the 0.25% portion of the total forest area in Turkey is allocated to the mining sector. 58% of the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry consists of contributions from the mining sector. The mining sector does not harm the nature but contributes on the contrary. In this organization, we wanted to contribute to the nature and decided to donate seedlings from Tema Foundation to each participant.”

Following the opening speech, the General Secretary of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB), İ. Cumhur İşbırakmaz informed the audience about EIB’s activities related to the mining sector and the current sectoral situation. After İşbırakmaz, Turkish Eximbank expert Vural Gökar Koyun made a presentation on the financing of export and answered the questions of exporters about the loans. The State Supports Department of EIB also informed the participants about the state supports provided by the Ministry of Trade. The presentation session has ended with the”Creating Value in Foreign Trade” titled presentation of Serdar Çakır.

16 participating companies and their representatives, who have made bilateral business meetings in Lagos, Nigeria and South Africa, within the scope of the delegations, signed important business contacts.

On the first day of the event, the sector representatives who made bilateral business meetings with 64 local purchasing companies in Lagos, Eko Hotels and Suites, paid technical visits to two companies operating in Lagos. On the second day of the event at the South African Republic, Turkey Natural Stone Sector representatives, evaluated the sector with the participation of 42 companies at Radisson Blu Sandton Hotel.

Turkish natural stone was the subject in America

27 industry representatives from 15 companies participated in the delegation for the cities of New Jersey and Atlanta. Within the scope of the delegation, the sector representatives, who had bilateral business meetings with 32 companies in New Jersey and Atlanta, visited 8 showrooms and production facilities in 2 cities.  The USA is ranked the 2nd in the list of countries that Turkey exports raw natural stone and is on the top on the list of processed natural stone purchasing countries. The total value of natural stone exported to U.S.A. by Turkish natural stone sector was 300 million dollars in 2018.
